Anyone who has been through a divorce can tell you, it's emotionally draining and there are a lot of issues to consider. Sadly, many people avoid leaving a bad marriage, fearing the divorce process and the toll it will have on the family. So, if you're feeling overwhelmed about what the future holds, that's normal. That's where my simple process of taking one step at a time and breaking down the procedure ensures both parties feel respected and supported to a mutual agreement. You will be treated with kindness and understanding, like people going through a challenging situation not a court case.
My mediation services are peaceful, personalized and result in a divorce agreement that is fair and considers the best interest of all parties concerned. I believe that the right information combined with the right expertise and the right kind of support can make all the difference in making the difficult process of divorce easier on you and your family.
Success comes from being able to help divorcing couples communicate, and identifying what issues are important to them. Even when they struggle not knowing or can't express those things themselves. This is critically important in helping the parties come to a balanced agreement.
Divorce Mediation is still a relatively young profession without formal licensing, but The Academy of Family Mediators has recommended training requirements for divorce mediators. In addition to my formal education, and being Certified in Anger Management as well as Substance Abuse, I completed a Nationally recognized 4 Day Intensive Divorce Mediation Certificate Program through Conflict Resolution Training, Inc.
A graduate from Wayne State University's Masters of Social Work program in 1992 with over 30 years of experience helping people in various capacities navigate life's challenges. After 19 years of marriage, I went through the litigation divorce process myself. At the time, unaware there were other options. We went through the court mandated mediation, which felt traumatizing. We were subjected to 5 hours straight of our lawyers discussing our situation with a 3rd lawyer as a mediator. The lawyers did all the talking and it felt like what was important to us got lost in the process. So, I feel grateful to have the opportunity to use my skills and experience to help other couples navigate this difficult process with peace and dignity.
